Who are we?

Leadership

Michael Leskowat, pastor of First Baptist Church.
Michael Leskowat, Pastor
My greatest joy is equipping the children of God to walk in the truth! Our church called me as a full-time pastor here in 2016. I also serve as a part-time chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserves.

I grew up in Tulsa, OK and first turned from sin to trust in the Lord when I was 7 years old. In high school, God began leading me to serve in ministry. God’s calling was further clarified by studying at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO, completing a Masters in Divinity at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and spending a year as a pastoral intern at Clifton Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. In the fall of 2016, God’s calling was confirmed when our church called me as their pastor.
In addition to the joys of pastoring, I enjoy running, reading, learning, and spending time with my wife, Laura, and our growing sons, Josiah and Silas!

Randy Fitzsimmons, deacon at First Baptist Church of Copan.
Randy Fitzsimmons, Deacon
Randy first became a deacon in 1999 simply because he desired to fill the need. Since then, Randy has continued to serve the church faithfully.

Randy grew up in Wann, OK and first came to know and follow the Lord later in his life. Since God changed his heart, Randy has grown in both his love for the Lord and his knowledge of God's Word. Randy and his wife Debbie have been members of our church family since 1997.
Randy graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering and now helps manage and work on a family farm.  He can be spotted fixing just about anything in the building, teaching Sunday School, making jokes, and doing announcements.

Our Beliefs

Our church, alongside other churches of the Southern Baptist Convention, affirms the Baptist Faith and Message

our Mission

to glorify God in true, genuine worship,
to walk together in a life of consistent prayer,
to grow the believers into spiritual maturity,
to edify and love one another
and to be "on mission" with God
by allowing Him to accomplish His Kingdom purposes through us.

History

Vertical Divider
The story of our church began when seven members first gathered in the W.E. Putnam home to form the First Missionary Baptist Church of Copan in 1909. In 1915, the church built their first meeting place. On April 10, 1962 a local paper read, “Copan’s Baptist Church is Destroyed By Fire.” The building did burn, but the church continued on in commitment to the Lord and to one another.

By God’s grace, First Baptist Church of Copan has been worshiping God and serving Copan for over 100 years. We pray to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for years to come!
Our first church building before it was destroyed by fire in 1962.
